After exploring through recent activity involving economic globalization and diving into contemporary gender/family dynamics across the world, these past few weeks have really opened my eyes and helped me conceptualize how vastly different other countries compare to the United States both socially and economically. Beginning with our course lecture material, when we discussed material culture (the physical products of human society), and non-material culture (the intangible products of human society), I couldn't help but think of the idea of how being an American, when living in a material driven society, how you dress and how much you have is held in such a high regard.
